Cub Prix supremo Ron not in a rush

KUALA LUMPUR: Organisers of the Petronas Malaysian Cub Prix are in no rush to let fans back in the stands.

Cub Prix supremo Ron Hogg said he would only be comfortable doing so when the government has released a clear standard operating procedure (SOP) in regard to spectator attendance.

The Sports Ministry on Friday announced that approval for spectator attendance for sporting events in states under phase four of the National Recovery Plan has been postponed as they look to reevaluate their spectator and event management general protocols.

"At the moment we are not in a rush to have the fans back. Our partners (sponsors) are also okay with this," said Ron.

"It's not ideal for them (sponsors) as we cannot open our promotional booths without the fans but they understand the situation.

"Obviously we want the fans back but I would rather wait until there is a clear SOP from the government on spectator attendance before we do so. They have to be very clear on this (SOP).

"This is because it is not easy to control people, especially after everyone has been stuck at home for so long. They (public) are eager for things to return to normal and can sometimes forget to follow SOP.

"You also have to remember that most (Covid-19 positive) people now do not display any symptoms or only have mild flu symptoms which make it even trickier to manage."

With Covid-19 cases in Malaysia having dropped over the past week, it is anticipated that many states will be entering phase three and four in the coming months.

Cub Prix, which was postponed following a spike in Covid cases in June and July, recently resumed with the third and fourth rounds, using a bubble format at Sepang Circuit. The fifth and sixth rounds of the championship will be held at the Terengganu Motorsports Circuit on Oct 1-3.
