Razlan: We can repeat what SRT did, but give it some time

PUTRAJAYA: Team principal Datuk Razlan Razali is hoping to turn CryptoDATA RNF into title contenders within the next three to five years.

RNF, which is the successor of the now defunct Sepang Racing Team (SRT), is currently in its second year of racing in MotoGP.

Razlan, when met here today, admitted that it had been a challenging first two years for the team, but is confident they would get stronger each season.

RNF switched from Yamaha to Aprilia machinery this season.

"The goal for us is to be competitive, get some podiums and win a championship," said Razlan when asked what his medium-term goals for the team are.

"Perhaps people will say it is too ambitious, but we almost won it (title) in 2020 (with SRT) and we have this belief that we can do it again if we have a good package.

"This is our first year with Aprilia and it is also their first year of having a satellite team. There have been some teething issues with spare parts management and so on.

"But give it some time, I think in the next three to four years, once everything is stable, then we can fight."

The team have arrived in Malaysia for the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix, which begins at the Sepang Circuit on Friday.

Razlan is hoping an update from Aprilia would help the team overcome the heat issues they faced with the RS-GP bike in Buriram a fortnight ago.

"We had a problem in Buriram where the RS-GP was putting out too much heat," he said.

"The heat was unable to flow out and was contained within the aero (parts).

"I have been told that Aprilia have done a modification for this week, so we will see how that goes.

"This is the difference between Japanese and European manufacturers. When there is a problem, they (Europeans) immediately try and find the solution."

Razlan, RNF rider Raul Fernandez and RNF mechanic Habib Fuad attended a motorsports forum with young Malaysian students organised by the Motorsports Association of Malaysia in Putrajaya today.
