(Bowling) New men's, women's national champions crowned

BANDAR SUNWAY: Kang Bo Long and Natasha Roslan were crowned the men's and women's national champions, respectively at Sunway Mega Lanes Saturday.

Kang, 31, recovered from splits in the opening two frames to edge former national youth bowler Johnathan Chan 172-154 for his second national title. The former national back-up bowler won it for the first time in 2011.

He earned RM7,000 for his efforts while Johnathan received RM3,000.

“The win is huge for me. I trained only three or four times a week without a coach. I also supplemented my equipment without any assistance,” said Kang, who runs an online pro shop business.

Kang was dropped from the national set up after the back-up squad was disbanded in 2010.

As for Natasha, the 22-year-old defeated national youth member Nur Amirah Auni Azman 207-204 for the women’s crown.

Natasha received RM3,000 for her achievement while Nur Amirah earned RM1,500.

“The win gives me a huge boost for a spot in the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games squad. However, I will still need to work hard in upcoming tournaments to get selected,” said Natasha, who won the world youth masters gold in Nebraska last year.
