Gymrama squad's dress valued at RM4,000 to shine at arena

KUALA LUMPUR: Besides the body movement together with the accompanying music which mesmerise the audience at the arena, the glittering dress worn by the gymrama squad also drew the attention of the audience.

As such, the national gymrama team will appear in style wearing dresses worth between RM3,000 and RM4,000 each at the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games 2017 (KL2017) during the event.

Deputy president of the Malaysian Gymnastics Federation Petrina Low said the attractive glittering dresses with decorative gemstones, which were especially designed for KL2017 by Malaysian designers and tailors, would further inspire the athletes at the gymrama arena.

“Actually, the decorative gemstones on each of the expensive gymrama dress would make the dress more attractive when presented at the arena later. The original price of the dress without the decorative stone is only RM450,” she said when approached by Bernama at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), here.

Low said every dress for the national athletes participating in the contest must be suitable to the equipment and music used to assist the athletes’ performance.

“If the music used originates from Spain, then the dress must be suitable to Spanish music,” she said.

She added that all the dresses used by the six national athletes in the team events and four for the individual events at the arena were selected by three national coaches according to the personality of the particular athletes.

Commenting on the preparation, Low said the venue facilities at the newly completed MITEC further inspired the athletes which enabled the national squad to be ready much earlier before competition at the SEA Games started.

The Malaysian rhythmic gymnastic squad is targeting to grab six of the eight gold medals offered during the competition scheduled to be held from Aug 26 to 28 at MITEC.

For the record, the national rhythmic gymnastic squad had won two gold and a silver medal at the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore. - Bernama
