KUALA LUMPUR: Injury denied Khairul Hafiz Jantan a sprint double after he finished fourth in the Sea Games men's 200m final at the National Stadium on Wednesday.
Khairul was in obvious discomfort running in the heats in the evening when he had his left hamstring put on ice.
Later in the final, Khairul was edged to a bronze medal by teammate G. Aravinn Thevarr, who clocked 21.26 seconds to the former's 21.28.
Anthony Beram of the Philippines won gold in 20.84 while Thailand's former champion Jirpapong Meenapra took silver in 21.22.
"I'm not disappointed because I have done my best but I will try to do better next time," said Khairul, who delighted the nation on Tuesday by winning the 100m gold, the country's first since 2003.
"Whether I'm not injured or not I will always run for the country. It was just a small problem but it served as a motivation.
"I have tried hard but if God does not allow it, then that is my fate. Maybe I will do it in the next Sea Games."
Aravinn, who did not medal in 2015, was as surprised as anyone after finishing ahead of Khairul.
"I did not expect to get a medal especially since Khairul won yesterday," said Aravinn, who only overtook Khairul on the line. "All the attention was on him so I am glad to have got a medal.
"This is the best moment of my career and I hope to come back and run faster."
