#NSTviral: 7-month-old baby falls from Chennai apartment; heroic rescue caught on video [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: They say it takes a village to raise a child. In Chennai, India, the saying rang true when a score of residents of the apartment complex banded together to save a 7-month-old child from falling off a roof on the second floor.

The dramatic rescue, which took place in Thirumullaivoyal in Avadi, was caught on camera and posted by social media user @RengarajMr on his X account.

It swiftly went viral, with many applauding the heroic efforts shown by neighbours and strangers alike.

According to the Hindustan Times, the child was reportedly playing on its mother's lap when it accidentally slipped from the fourth floor and landed on the second floor's blue tin roof.

At the start of the video, the child could be seen lying on its stomach, while all around it, rescue efforts were on the way.

Residents waiting on the ground floor swiftly held out large pieces of cloth to catch the baby if it fell. A few men were seen trying to climb out of the windows on the first floor of the apartment building in order to reach the child.

As a couple of men squeezed their way out of the small window, one reached out and grabbed the baby by its arm and swiftly pulled it in to safety.

The baby was immediately sent to the hospital and was lucky to escape the accident with minor scratches.
