KUALA LUMPUR: The Sepaktakraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) are asking a group of former players not to make assumptions about the current coaching line-up of the national men’s squad.
PSM president Datuk Ahmad Ismail stressed that out of the eight coaches involved with the national team, a few admittedly have served for quite long and there are those who have been with the team for only less than five months so they need to be given the chance to prove themselves.
However, Ahmad did not discount the fact that there could be changes to the coaching line up though he declined to elaborate further.
“I must respect the coaching committee, as according to procedure they will come up with a proposal for the exco and only after this will we decide if any of the coaches will be released.
“Nevertheless we must wait till after all the working committee meetings with the National Sports Council (NSC) as it also depends on the quota provided by the NSC,” he said yesterday.
On Monday it was revealed by Berita Harian that a few former national players were urging PSM to make coaching changes after their dissatisfaction with the national team’s performance at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games (KL2017).
Among the former players calling for action are Shaari Hashim and Rommi Norsal who are the sport’s legends in their own right back in the 1990s.
Out of the eight coaches, head coach Abdul Talib Ahmad and his assistant Najib Iman can breathe a sigh of relief as Ahmad has said that their services are needed to prepare the national team for the Asian Games in Indonesia next year.
