Budget 2018: Boost for sports

KUALA LUMPUR: Sports will receive a RM1 Billion boost under the 2018 Budget.

It will be allocated for sporting initiatives such as FitMalaysia, National Sports Day, athletes’ training, grassroots programmes and the development of football.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in tabling the 2018 Budget at Parliament House today also said 14 new sports complexes will be built nationwide, costing RM112 million.

In addition, the Bukit Jalili Sports School will be given RM20 million to upgrade its infrastructure as a premier sports school.

In his speech, Najib also congratulated the Malaysian contingent for emerging overall champions of the 29th Kuala Lumpur SEA Games and runner-up for 7th Asean Para Games.
