Waiting for a date with KJ

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia (STAM) are still waiting for a date to meet with Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

STAM assistant secretary II Yusoff Ali said today: “Until now we have not been able to set a date for the meeting. We are hoping it can be done as soon as possible.”

The decision to meet Khairy was made during a special meeting by STAM following the sport being dropped from the Core Sports programme by the National Sports Council (NSC) as well as its exclusion from the Perak Malaysia Games next year.

It was decided at the meeting that STAM would not appeal to NSC and would instead go directly to Khairy.

Earlier this month, Khairy announced that sepaktakraw, weightlifting and taekwondo had been dropped from the Core Sports programme and would not be included in the Malaysia Games.

Among the reasons given by NSC was that the national sepaktakraw team’s performance at the Sea Games had deteriorated and would not have won gold if Thailand took part in the same event.
