CDM optimistic of better show in Gold Coast

KUALA LUMPUR: Commonwealth Games chef de mission Huang Ying How expects a decent haul of medals in Gold Coast on April 4-15.

"How we do in a multi-sports event will provide us a reflection of our progress. The Commonwealth Games is not a ‘kampung’ competition.

“It is an opportunity for our athletes to gauge their standard against the best,”

"I want to see progress especially from our Podium Programme athletes.

"I believe we will have more athletes in Gold Coast and I am also confident that we will do slightly better than the previous editions,” said Ying How when met at the OCM media appreciation lunch in KL on Wednesday.

Ying How is also the Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) president.

For the record, Malaysia sent 180 athletes for the 2014 Glasgow edition and recorded a haul of six gold, seven silver and six bronze.

It was the nation’s lowest gold haul since winning two titles at the 1994 Victoria Games.
