Hoping to 'lift the frustration' off his heart

WEIGHTLIFTER Aznil Bidin hopes to take “a ton of frustration” off his heart, which he has carried since the Sea Games in August last year.

Only a medal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April will put an end to his heartache.

At the KL Sea Games, Aznil missed out on a podium finish in the snatch event after lifting 120kg.

He was edged by Myanmar’s Myint Kyi to the bronze medal while Trinh Van Vinh of Vietnam and Indonesian Eko Yuli Irawan took gold and silver respectively.

The 24-year-old from Kedah said he wants to bounce back by winning a Commonwealth Games medal though he didn’t specify the colour.

“I will try to win a medal for the country and I have to ensure that I am injury-free,” he said.

The national record holder for the clean and jerk (159kg) and total (279kg), will depart for Vietnam on Feb 1 for a training session.

“When we train overseas, it’s more focused compared to when we train in Malaysia where there are more distractions,” he said.
