Top 60 target for Webb

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian alpine ski racer Jeffrey Webb will be aiming to crack the top 60 when he takes to the slopes for the slalom at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics on Thursday.

Team manager Othman Mirzan believes he can achieve his target.

Last week, Webb did well to finish 68th in the giant slalom event in two minutes 48.68s.

"Webb is eager to race tomorrow and after a good result in the giant slalom he is hopeful of a better result in the slalom," said Othman.

"Webb is much stronger in slalom than in giant slalom and it is his preferred discipline. The field is tough and obviously Olympic events are never easy.

"But he is confident he will do well and we hope for a strong finish, perhaps top-60, if he is able to put in a good race."

A total of 108 skiers are scheduled to start in the slalom event which will be held at the Yongpyong Alpine Centre.

Webb is the first ever Malaysian to qualify for the Winter Olympics.

He is only one of two Malaysians, including figure skater Julian Yee, who are competing in this edition of the Winter Olympics.
