Nicol crashes out in second round in Egypt

KUALA LUMPUR: Nicol David's campaign at the El Gouna International Squash Open in Egypt came to an early end today after going down to India's Joshna Chinappa in the second round.

Nicol, seeded eighth, lost in straight sets 11-8, 11-8, 11-8 in a 32 minute encounter at the El Gouna Squash Complex. This is the first time she has lost to Joshna in 15 matches.

Joshna, who like Nicol, had competed in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, said she had no high expectations going into the match.

Nicol had beaten Egyptian qualifier Zeina Mickawy in the opening round on Friday.

"I didn't have any game plan today, I was just trying to save my energy," said Joshna.

"I just had a good night’s sleep, ate well and came for my match."

Malaysian qualifier S. Sivasangari went down to Egyptian second seed Raneem El Welily 11-4, 11-5, 11-4 in the opening round of the main draw yesterday.
