Women's futsal team bow out of AFC Championship

KUALA LUMPUR: Mental strength turned out to be the weakest point of the Malaysian women’s futsal team who bowed out in the group stage of the AFC Championship in Bangkok recently.

Coach Addie Azwan Zainal said his team’s mental strength was lacking though the difference in standards among the competing teams was not big.

“The quality of our players is not that different from other countries. Fitness, tactical, skills and speed aspects are almost similar.”

Malaysia started off in great fashion to win 7-1 against Bangladesh in their Group B opener, but lost 4-2 to Taiwan in the second match.

Their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals were dashed when they lost 3-1 to Vietnam.

Addie said he is pleased with his players’ performance despite Malaysia missing the semi-finals target.
