KUALA LUMPUR: The Nicol David-led Malaysia were edged 2-1 by France in the quarter-finals of the Women’s World Team Championship in Dalian on Friday.
In the opening match, the Penang-born Nicol found the going tough in the 11-9, 11-2, 11-5 defeat to World No 5 Camille Serme.
France confirmed their victory when Coline Aumard overcame Asian Games silver medallist S. Sivasangari 8-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-8.
In the third match, Low Wee Wern managed to earn a point for Malaysia following a 11-7, 11-8, 11-0 victory over Melissa Alves.
Malaysia will play the United States in the fifth-eighth classification round on Saturday.
In the 2016 edition, Malaysia finished sixth with Egypt winning the title.
France play England while Egypt take on Hong Kong in Saturday’s semi-finals.
