Watch: Julian Yee performs in US as 'janitor'; soaks up audience's adoration

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's trailblazing figure skater Julian Yee gave a uniquely creative performance at a major international competition recently – and local netizens are ‘mopping their brows’ over how wonderfully ‘hot’ it was.

Yee – who is the first Malaysian figure skater to participate in the Winter Olympics – took to the ice at Skate America 2018 in Washington on Oct 20, performing a dazzling routine… as a janitor.

With a mop in one hand and a radio in the other, Julian swept through the ice rink effortlessly – and it was clear from the cheers in the crowd that the 20-year-old had ‘cleaned up’ the audience.

Yee ranked seventh overall in the competition – a not-too-shabby achievement for the charismatic athlete, who is also the first male skater to clinch a Southeast Asian Games gold medal.

A video clip of Yee’s US performance has earned almost 20,000 views and garnered a slew of comments from Malaysians impressed by his flawless, outside-of-the box routine.

Yee’s K-popstar good looks also did not escape the notice of numerous netizens, with one fan saying that she wished she could be his ‘mop’.

Sunway Pyramid – where Julian trained during much of his childhood – also gave a shout out to the national athlete on his riveting performance.
