Compound trio to meet with Shapawi

KUALA LUMPUR: The national Compound trio will meet face-to-face with National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail in the near future to resolve the issue involving them.

The three national archers led by Mohd Juwaidi Mazuki, Zulfadhli Ruslan and Lee Kin Lip caused a stir last week when they declined to represent the country on the international stage.

It was reported that the monthly allowance of RM500 offered as full-time athletes led to the national trio in making such a decision.

"Many see the allowance factor as being the main reason behind our decision though in actual fact there are a few other issues that led to our action.

"We will be voice out directly to him and hope that our request can be fulfilled by NSC so as to enable to programme and training to carry on smoothly for the rest of the year,” Juwaidi explained.

The 2018 Asian Games bronze medallist added that they will be meeting Ahmad Shapawi in the very near future to ensure that the issues that they have does not drag on and a decision can be reached.

The presence of the national compound trio is seen as vital especially in facing the Manila Sea Games apart from other international championships that will take place this year.

The national compound trio have proven themselves as capable archers by performing well in various championships since a couple of years ago.
