Koreans deny Malaysia a place in final

KUALA LUMPUR: They tried their best but it was not enough.

The Malaysians went down 3-0 to South Korea in the semi-finals of the FIH Series Finals in Banbridge, Northern Ire land yesterday.

South Korea, ranked 11th in the world, scored two early goals to deny 22nd ranked Malaysia a spot in the final of the Olympics Qualifier in November.

South Korea scored off Cho Hyejinin in the 12th minute while Kim Hyunji doubled the score in the 17th minute.

The third goal was scored by Cheon Eunbi in the 48th minute and all three were field attempts.

Malaysia will play Czech Republic for the bronze medal. For the record Malaysia beat the Czechs 3-1 in Group A.

However, even if Malaysia win bronze, due to their low ranking, they will still not qualify for the final Olympic Qualifier in November.

The final will be between Ireland, who beat Czech Republic 4-0 in the other semi-finals, and South Korea.
