The show goes on for athletics ex-national coach Zainal

IT’S not the end of the road for former national chief coach Zainal Abas as far as athletics is concerned.

Zainal resigned as national chief coach 24 hours after Datuk Karim Ibrahim was dethroned as Malaysian Athletics Federation (MAF) president during their elections on Sunday.

Zainal said he now wants to focus on his position with the Education Ministry as the director for Sports, Co-Curriculum and Arts.

On Sunday, Karim was ousted by Datuk S.M. Muthu, who defeated the former by 21-18 votes in the MAF annual general meeting.

“I want to congratulate Muthu on his victory.

“I also want to thank MAF for trusting and believing in me over the last three years.”

Zainal said during his time as chief coach, Malaysian athletes set 37 national records in 17 disciplines and three Sea Games records.

“Congratulations to all the athletes who showed great spirit and determination to achieve their dreams.

“Keep it up. I’m certain they will go on to reach greater heights,” Zainal added.
