B-boy Lego Sam busts a move

BREAKING specialist Sam Jee Lek, better known by his stage name Lego Sam, is brimming with confidence ahead of the Philippines Sea Games.

Jee Lek has been on fire since finishing 20th from over 90 b-boys at the World Breaking Championships in Nanjing in June.

The 24-year-old was one of only five Asians and the only Southeast Asian in the top-20 bracket, which makes him the odds-on favourite for the gold at the Sea Games on Nov 30-Dec 11.

The Mantin-born believes he is on the right track ahead of the biennial competition.

“The world meet was also a test run for the 2024 Paris Olympics and to finish 20th was a good result for me,” said Jee Lek recently.

“I am feeling confident at the moment. I have been competing since June in many countries (Belgium, Vietnam, Japan, Singapore and China) and have won many events.

“I think I have the experience and am really prepared for the Sea Games. I am looking forward to it.

“Indonesia and Thailand have the strongest b-boys, possibly the Philippines as well, but I am confident of winning a gold for Malaysia.”

Jee Lek added that he is focused on making a name for himself in the sport.

“I used to coach but now I am a full-time (competitive) b-boy and this is how I make a living.

“I might go back to coaching later on but the focus now is on my competitive career and representing the country,” he added.

“I normally get invited for competitions and they are all sponsored. In August, I won six solo category competitions in China.”

Breaking, better known as break dancing among non-followers, has been provisionally included in the lineup of sports for the 2024 Olympics.

Malaysia are targeting six medals, regardless of colour, in dancesport in the Sea Games.
