Fatehah back on track after a lean spell

Fatehah Mustapa proved she still has a lot left in the tank after combining with youngster Anis Amira Rosidi to bag a well deserved bronze in the women's team sprint at the Asian Track Cycling Championships in South Korea yesterday.

The duo clocked a respectable 35.081 seconds to place third from seven teams in qualifying at the Jincheon National Training Centre Velodrome.

They then kept their calm to down Hong Kong pair Yeung Cho Yiu-Li Yin Yin in the third place decider, clocking 34.792s to the rivals’ 34.925s for bronze. China's Wei Zhuang-Zhang Linyin (33.423s) downed South Korea's Kim Soohyun-Lee Hyejin (34.139s) in the gold medal match.

Fatehah, who has struggled with form and motivation over the past few seasons, recently showed glimpses of her old self at the National Championships where she stressed that she was working hard on getting her career back on track.

The men's team sprint event saw Fariz Haikal Mohd Kadir, Shah Firdaus Sahrom and Fadhil Zonis placed third in qualifying on 45.144s. They were, however, edged in the bronze medal decider by South Korea's Kim Dongha, Kim Chengsu and Seok Hyeyun who clocked 44.920s to Malaysia's 45.066s.

Meanwhile, the men's team pursuit squad comprising Ariff Danial Noor Roseidi, Hakimi Nor, Eiman Firdaus Mohd Zamri and Yusri Shaari settled for sixth spot after clocking 4:20.453s in the preliminaries.
