Netball team in perfect mood for gold

THE Malaysian netball team scored a huge psychological boost after edging arch-rivals Singapore 54-49 in their final round-robin match at the Philippines Sea Games at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex in Manila yesterday.

The win saw defending champions Malaysia top the table and set up a semi-final date with Brunei tomorrow. The other semi-final pits Singapore against Thailand.

National coach Tracey Robinson, while pleased with the result, was quick to stress the need for improvement in certain areas before they move into the business end of the competition.

“I’m happy with how it went today (yesterday), but we just need to be more consistent over the four quarters,” said Tracey, whose side were outscored by Singapore in the third quarter.

“We let Singapore back into the game and they came charging. Moving forward, we will work on making sure we communicate better.”

Malaysia should not have much of a problem against Brunei, having defeated them 69-23 on Thursday, and are very likely to meet Singapore again in the final on Monday.
