Bowler Radin Nor Najwa back with a bang

BOWLER Radin Nur Najwa Radin Zuldzulsakar came to the fore and kept the Malaysian flag flying high recently.

The national bowler looked commanding on the lanes and came out tops in the women’s Open event of the 47th Penang Pesta International Championships at MegaMall Bowling Centre in Prai.

Radin, 26, was able to deny the South Koreans a clean sweep. The Koreans took the top two spots in the mixed Open, and second and third spots in the in the women’s Open final.

In the mixed Masters Open semi-finals, the petite Radin finished 13th and became among the 24 finalists.

In the final, Radin was in her element as she rolled lines of 166, 224, 216, 226, 247, 202, 216 and 227 for 1,724 pinfalls.

She earned RM5,000 for the women’s Open title and RM2,500 for finishing ninth in the mixed Open.

South Korea’s Kim Ji Su and Sung Gyeong Eun knocked down 1,781 and 1,734 pins to claim second and third positions respectively.

Radin said she did not expect to win the title after missing the Penang Pesta in the past five years.

‘This (title) was really surprising. I am glad I decided to play in Penang this year.

‘As a national bowler I did not achieve much last year. I finished second at the Sarawak International Open and qualified for the stepladder final at the Thailand Open,’ she said.

South Korea’s Kang Hee Won and Hwang Dong Wook made it a one-two finish in the mixed Masters Open final after knocking down 1,902 and 1,878 pins to collect RM20,000 and RM12,000 respectively.

Australia’s Sam Cooley was third with 1,872.
