Chong Wei gets own wax figure at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong

KUALA LUMPUR: Former world No. 1 badminton player Datuk Lee Chong Wei has become the first Malaysian athlete to be immortalised with a wax figure at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong.

In a Twitter posting today, Lee thanked the wax museum and their team for being “extremely patient and detailed” during a detailing session recently.

“I would have never imagined a wax figure of my own!

“Thank you Madame Tussauds Hong Kong for the privilege and I’m honoured to be the first Malaysian sportsman to join the list,” he said.

The national shuttler retired last year.

His last appearance on court was in the semi-final of the Indonesia Open in July 2019, where he lost to eventual champion, Kento Momota.

Apart from being a three-time Olympic silver medalist in 2008, 2012, and 2016. He was also three-time World Championships silver medallist (2011, 2013 and 2015).

Lee is the only men’s singles to have won 46 Super Series from 2007 to 2018, which earned him the title “Super Series King”.

His wax figure is expected to be unveiled in the second quarter of 2020.
