Phillippines calls to postpone Asean Para Games due to Wuhan coronavirus

KUALA LUMPUR: The Asean Para Games will likely be postponed for the second time due to the rising number of Wuhan coronavirus cases in the region.

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) have recommended to the Philippine Paralympic Committee (PPC) to seek an approval from the Asean Para Sports Federation (APSF) for the rescheduling of the biennial games.

“I was in conversation with my immediate superior, the president, and was advised to make the necessary moves to prevent the virus from spreading, so we are postponing several events,” said PSC chairman William Ramirez in a press conference in Manila on Thursday.

“We will also advise the Asean Para Games to possibly postpone it for the safety and security of everyone.”

PPC president Michael Barredo and Ramirez will meet APSF officials later today in Thailand to discuss the postponement.

Asean Para Games was initially moved from January to March in Clark due to budget issues.

“We will explain to them (APSF) of the situation and hopefully find a solution, maybe reschedule it in May or June,” said Barredo.
