Ivan one match away from year's first title

Ivan Yuen is one win away from winning his first title of the season after he reached the final of the CNS International Squash Championships in Karachi yesterday.

The top seed defeated Egyptian third seed Mazen Gamal 11-7, 11-7, 11-8 in his semi-final match. The 29-year-old faces Pakistan’s Tayyab Aslam, who overcame Hong Kong’s Henry Leung 12-10, 11-3, 11-6, for the crown today.

The Malaysian will be the favourite as he has beaten the World No 50 Tayyab four times in five meetings.

“With the Asian Team Championships coming up in Kuala Lumpur next month, it’s good to see Ivan stepping up his game,” said national coach Ajaz Azmat.

On the final, Ajaz said Ivan needs to focus and minimise errors to beat Tayyab.
