Injury blow for Petrus

National rugby player Lawrence Petrus' hopes of building on his impressive form in Australia last year suffered a blow after dislocating his right wrist in training recently.

The Sabah-born, who is on the books at Manly Marlins Rugby Club this season, is expected to be out for two months.

Lawrence admitted that it was not the ideal way to start the year but hopes to make a relatively swift recovery.

"The injury is severe, so I am hoping for the best at the moment," said Lawrence.

"I am not exactly sure how long it will take to recover, but I am keen on coming back as soon as possible. It is not ideal, but these things (injuries) can happen."

Manly Marlins compete in the New South Wales Shute Shield — a premier competition in the state. The new season starts on April 10.

Lawrence had competed for the University of Western Australia (UWA) in his maiden season Down Under last year.

He was part of their squad that emerged victorious in the Championship Division of the Rugby WA Fortescue Premier Grade League.

Lawrence's solid performances throughout last season did not go unnoticed as he was named in the league's Team of the Week twice in week 10 and 13.
