Addeen all fired up for SRAM PSA 6

A REJUVENATED Addeen Idrakie is eager to make his presence felt in the SRAM PSA 6 squash tournament, which starts tomorrow.

National No 4 Addeen had spent four months training and competing in the United States before returning home earlier this month.

The 27-year-old, whose best result during that period was a semi-final finish at the Boston Open three weeks ago, believes the short stint away from home has helped him grow as a player.

"It was a very good stint for me as I learned a lot from quality training sessions and had to be more disciplined as a professional player too," said the world No 114.

"In terms of squash, I feel that I am now more prepared towards the top-50 level, which needs you to be more prepared to play long drawn out matches.

"I will apply what I had learned from the stint, especially in the upcoming SRAM meet.

"I just got out from a two-week quarantine period, and I've only had a few days to train, but I am definitely very excited for this event.

"The up-and-coming players in the country have been making progress, and I am excited to be put to the test against them

"Their rise also motivates me to train harder."

Third seed Addeen, who has been handed a first-round bye, will open his campaign against Amir Amirul Azhar or Shauqi Halim in the second round.

He is expected to reach the semi-finals for a possible clash against second seed Syafiq Kamal.

National No 2 Ivan Yuen, the top seed, hopes to capture back-to-back titles following his success at the SRAM PSA 5 event last month.

In the women's event, national No 4 Aifa Azman is the top seed and the overwhelming favourite to capture her 10th professional title.
