Two Covid-positive players can't return yet

THE national women's hockey team returned to Malaysia yesterday from South Korea minus two Covid-infected players.

The two players are still under quarantine in the Korean city of Donghae, and can only travel back after getting clearance.

The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) said the national team arrived at KLIA yesterday, and will undergo quarantine.

The Malaysian women's team went to Donghae for the Asian Champions Trophy on Dec 5-11. But they didn't get to play a single match after being quarantined on arriving in Donghae on Nov 29 after a player tested positive for Covid-19.

MHC said two other Malaysian players, who tested positive later, are still isolating in Donghae. Coach Nasihin Nubli and team manager Siti Noor Amarina Ruhani will remain in South Korea with the two players to ensure their welfare.

Covid-19 had also forced the national men's squad to withdraw from the men's Asian Champions Trophy, which starts today in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The entire men's team had to go into self-quarantine after striker Faizal Saari tested positive for Covid-19 on Dec 8.
