Pahang boys, Penang girls crowned national U-16 champions

KUALA LUMPUR: Pahang were crowned champions in the boys' event of the National Under-16 tournament at National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.

They defeated Selangor 2-1 in the final.

Nazmi Rahimi (18th minute) and Hakeem Danish (36th) scored for the champions, while Syairiel Shah replied for Selangor in the 60th minute.

In the girls' final, Negri Sembilan gave defending champions Penang a brave fight in their 2-1 defeat.

Negri took the lead off a 22nd-minute penalty corner attempt through Irdina Madihah Azmi, but Penang made a late push to score two goals in the final quarter.

Nur Iman Adawiyah (46th, 57th) made sure Penang retained their gold won two years ago before the Movement Control Order.

Nur Iman also emerged as the top scorer with 15 goals ---12 field and three penalty corner attempts.

RESULTS

Boys' final: Pahang 2 Selangor 1; Third-Fourth: Perak 2 Negri Sembilan 0.

Girls' final:Negri Sembilan 1 Penang 2; Third-Fourth: Perak 2 Malacca 0.
