Malaysian men and women in merciless mood

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian women's indoor hockey team crushed Cambodia 14-1 in their Asia Cup opener today. And their men's counterpart followed suit with a 6-0 win against Singapore.

The Malaysian women will play Thailand on Wednesday while the men meet Taiwan tomorrow.

Nur Aishah Yaacob started the rout with a first minute goal and struck again in the 27th. The other scorers were Raja Norsharina Shabuddin (3rd), Putri Nur Batrisyia (4th, 15th, 39th), Qasidah Najwa Halimi (10th), Fazilla Sylvester Silin (11th, 33rd, 35th) and Nuraini Abdul Rashid (13th, 14th, 15th, 36th).

Seng Sorphorn scored for Cambodia in the 18th minute.

Malaysia coach Rodzhanizam Mat Radzi said: "We have a rest day before playing Thailand on Wednesday and it will be our toughest match in Group B but team morale is high and I expect another win from my players."

Faridzul Afiq scored a brace in the 16th and 23rd minutes for the men's team while the other goals were scored by Razali Hazemi (25th), Aslam Hanafiah (29th), Shello Silverius (32nd) and Norsyafiq Sumantri (36th).
