Netball: Malaysia made to sweat for victory

KUALA LUMPUR: The national netball team was made to sweat before seeing off Hong Kong 55-46 in the second round of the Asian Championships at OCBC Arena in Singapore today.

The win is a warm-up for Malaysia, who lost to Sri Lanka 58-55 on Tuesday, ahead of tomorrow's crucial match against Singapore. A win over their rivals will guarantee Malaysia a spot in the final.

National coach Lisa Beehag fielded several newcomers at the start of the match against Hong Kong.

Hong Kong were up 25-21 after the second quarter before Malaysia brought on their senior players, who turned the tide in the match.

Nordiyanah Noor Sabadinee, who won the most valuable player award at the recent Netball Super League (NSL), said: "We managed to turn it around from the third quarter.

"We reminded ourselves to remain calm throughout the match. We are glad to win ahead of tomorrow's match against Singapore."
