Runner Shereen smashes 30-year-old national women's record

KUALA LUMPUR: Shereen Samson Vallabouy has finally broken the 30-year-old national women's 400m record.

The United States-based sprinter clocked a superb 51.80s at the St Mac Relays Invitational Elite competition in California on Friday to erase Abdul Rabia Salam's long standing national mark of 52.56s clocked at the Asian Championships in Manila in 1993.

Shereen set the new national record when running in heat one in the American meet. She was placed fifth overall.

The Perak-born athlete is the youngest daughter of Malaysia's decorated middle-distance running couple, Samson Vallabouy and Josephine Mary.
