Sivasangari falls to Belgian Gilis in Hong Kong

KUALA LUMPUR: National women's squash No. 1 S. Sivasangari's hopes of reaching her first ever semi-final in the platinum US$175,000 Hong Kong Open were dashed by fourth seed Nele Gilis of Belgium.

The world No. 17 gave the Belgian a strong fight in 56 minutes before going down 8-11, 6-11, 12-10, 9-11 in the quarter-finals.

Gilis will face second seed Hania El Hammamy of Egypt in the semi-finals while top seed Nour El Sherbini of Egypt will take on third seed Amanda Sobhy of the United States.

National coach Ajaz Azmat said Sivasangari gave a good fight against Gilis.

''Overall, Sivasangari performed well in the Hong Kong Open, and she ended her last PSA tournament on a high note," said Ajaz.
