Rocky start to the year for Yasshmita

KUALA LUMPUR: Yasshmita Jadish Kumar had a bad start to the year when she was upset 13-11, 6-11, 8-11, 2-11 by unseeded Lauren Baltayan of France in the second round of the Squash Inspire Women's Open in Columbia, United States, yesterday.

World No. 78 and seventh seed Yasshmita received a first round bye, but lost to world No. 89 Lauren in 35 minutes.

It was the first tournament for the year for the United Kingdom-based Yasshmita who took a two-month break from training after playing in the Northern Joe Cup in England last November.

Yasshmita, 19, who won the Victorian Open in Australia last year said: "I'm still rusty after the two-month break. I need to work on my match sharpness in the coming weeks.

"It's a good learning experience playing Lauren as she's a very good player," said Yasshmita who hails from Negri Sembilan.
