Monster Vicious come from behind to grab title

KUALA LUMPUR: Monster Vicious (MV) completed a double after winning the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) top gong in the Malaysia eSports Championship.

MV, who had won the Malaysia eSports League 2023 (MEL23), completed a comeback 3-1 win over Todak Legion in the best of five grand finals at the ESI Hub, Spacerubix in Puchong.

MV, represented by skipper Aiman Mohamad Abas, nicknamed Aimji, Ed Asyraaf Darwisy Hayy Mohd Farid (Neyun), Muhammad Fath Zikryfikri Ahmad (Zutod), Akmal Harith Alias (Igor) and Ammar Ahmad Jamalulail (Sanmar), got off on the wrong foot, losing the first game before levelling the score 1-1 in the second game.

The Selangor-based team then surged ahead, winning game three and four for a comfortable 3-1 win and returned home with RM30,000 while runners-up Todak Legion received RM15,000. Third-placed Kelantan collected RM10,000 and fourth-placed MV Originz received RM7,500.

Todak Legion's Irfan Syahmi Mohamad Pin, nicknamed Joyboyy, was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Igor picked up the Best Rookie award.

Aiman revealed that the team had only three days of actual training in their gaming house with their new team members as the majority of the regulars were focusing on the ongoing Mobile Legends Bang Bang Professional League Malaysia (MPL MY) qualifiers.

"We had a week to prepare with the new members and only three days of it was done in our gaming house. We had to rope in new faces as the majority of the team are focusing on the MPL MY qualifiers," said Aiman.

"Our target is just to finish top four but we managed to exceed expectations and it's a pleasant surprise to beat Todak who were the better team.

"Our strategy worked in the early stage of the competition, and we managed to reach the final. We got a wake-up call in the first game of the final. After the defeat, we made changes to our strategy and tactics, and we managed to change the game around and get the win."
