Decent start for Jayden at Doha World Championships

KUALA LUMPUR: National swimmer Jayden Tan came within a whisker of breaking his personal best (PB) at the Doha World Aquatics Championships today.

Jayden clocked a decent two minutes and 5.08 seconds to place fifth in his heat and 30th overall from 37 swimmers in the men's 200 metre individual medley preliminaries.

His time was only slightly off his 2:05.02s PB which he set at the Malaysian Open in Bukit Jalil last year.

Only the top-16 swimmers advanced to the semi-finals. Switzerland's Jeremy Desplanches (1:58.17s), Japan's Daiya Seto (1:58.26s) and United States' Carson Foster (1:58.71s) rounded out the top-three.

Jayden will next compete in the 400m individual medley event on Sunday.

Teammate Bryan Leong is scheduled to compete in the men's 100m butterfly on Friday.
