KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's joint ninth seed C. Ameeshenraj upset world No. 79 and top seed Viktor Byrtus of the Czech Republic 11-6, 11-4, 11-5 in the Ipswich Sports Club Challenger Cup in England on Wednesday.
World No. 140 Ameeshenraj will face Wales' fifth seed Owain Taylor for a place in the semi-finals. In the first round, Ameeshenraj beat Spain's Nilo Vidal 11-5, 11-5, 11-5.
Compatriot Darren Pragasam also reached the quarter-finals by upsetting Egypt's second seed Mohamad Zakaria 11-9, 12-10, 8-11, 11-9. Joint ninth seed Darren will face Egyptian Moustafa Elsirty next.
In the women's competition, Malaysia's fifth seed Yasshmita Jadish Kumar reached the last eight by defeating Colombia's Catalina Pelaez 7-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-4. Yasshmita will face Wales' Lowri Roberts next.
