Andre and Irfan find the going hard Down Under

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's triple jumper Andre Anura Anuar and discus thrower Irfan Shamsuddin struggled in the Maurie Plant Athletics meet in Melbourne yesterday.

Andre has a personal best of 16.51m but did a poor 15.78m to finish fifth among six athletes.

The two-time Sea Games champion also finished fifth (15.79m) in the Adelaide Invitational on Feb 10.

Irfan, who won the bronze in the Asian Championships last year, only managed 56.20m to finish seventh out of eight athletes. His effort was way off his national record of 62.55m.

In the Adelaide Invitational last week, Irfan finished sixth

(with 57.15m) out of nine participants.

Andre and Irfan competed in Adelaide and Melbourne with the hope of gaining points to qualify for the Paris Olympics.

The duo will compete in the third and last meet, the Christchurch International in New Zealand on Feb 24.
