Sivasangari well-oiled for Windy Open assault

KUALA LUMPUR: National No. 1 S. Sivasangari is all geared up for a good showing at the US$250,000 Windy City in Chicago, the United States, which begins tomorrow.

In her fourth PSA Tour event of the year, Sivasangari hopes to shine in the platinum-level tournament, which has attracted the world's best players.

Her best performances this year include reaching the quarter-finals of the Florida Open and Cincinnati Open.

World No. 16 Sivasangari has received a bye in the first round and will face Egypt's Jana Shiha or Wales' Tesni Murphy in the second round.

Her main challenge will come in the third round as she is expected to face world No. 9 and fifth seed Georgina Kennedy of the US.

National coach Ajaz Azmat said Sivasangari is well-oiled for the tournament after three weeks of hard training.

"Her main challenge will be in the third round against Georgina, but I am sure she will give her best.

"However, it is not going to be easy playing against players ranked in the top 10," said Ajaz.

Meanwhile, compatriot and world No. 25 Rachel Arnold will face No. 47 Grace Gear of England in the first round.

If she wins, the Malaysian will face world No. 1 Nour El Sherbini of Egypt in the second round.

World No. 44 Aira Azman will take on No. 35 Georgia Adderley of Scotland in the first round.

Aira's sister, Aifa, will face Malak Ghafagy of Egypt in her opening match.

In the men's competition, world No. 20 Ng Eain Yow will open his campaign against No. 53 Todd Harrity of the US in the first round.
