Bertrand-Enrique finish ninth in platform synchro at World Cup

KUALA LUMPUR: Bertrand Rhodict-Enrique Maccartney Harold have their work cut out for them if they aim to mount a stronger challenge in the 10m platform synchro event at the highest level.

On Sunday, the Hangzhou Asian Games bronze medallists paid the price for one poor dive as they missed out on the final at the FINA Diving World Cup in Montreal, Canada.

Bertrand-Enrique were well in contention for the top six after posting scores of 54.00, 50.40, 67.50 and 74.88 in their first four attempts, placing seventh out of 11 pairs.

However, disaster struck on their fifth dive, earning the lowest score of the day at 42.57, causing them to tumble down the standings.

Despite a strong performance in their final dive, which earned them 64.32 points, they were eliminated, finishing ninth with 353.67 points.

Reigning world champions Yang Hao-Lian Junjie from China clinched the gold medal with an impressive score of 457.23 points.

Mexico's Kevin Berlin Reyes-Randal Willards Valdez secured the silver with 428.97 points, while Britain's Noah Williams-Tom Daley took home the bronze, scoring 417.93 points.

Meanwhile, Bertrand, bound for the Paris Olympics, landed in the 10th spot out of 11 divers in the 10m platform individual final held last Saturday.

The Sarawakian accumulated 389.85 points across six rounds of dives.

The Diving World Cup 2024 continues with two more stops.

Following Montreal, the competition will head to Berlin on March 21-24 before culminating in the super final in Xian, China on April 19-21.
