Eain Yow, Sivasangari reach second round at Worlds

KUALA LUMPUR: Asian champion Ng Eain Yow put up a splendid performance to beat world No. 18 Baptiste Masotti of France to reach the second round of the World Championships in Cairo, Egypt today.

The world No. 17 Malaysian won 11-9, 11-8, 11-5 in 40 minutes at Palm Hill Club to set up a date with Japan's Ryunosuke Tsukue on Sunday.

Eain Yow, who won the German Open last month said: "I thought I played well. I kept the length good and stuck to my game.

"I was a bit more positive today."

London Classic champion S. Sivasangari also advanced to the second round with an 11-6, 11-8, 11-8 win over Latvia's Ineta Hopton in 19 minutes.

The world No. 13 will face American Caroline Fouts on Sunday.

Sivasangari said: "I expected a better performance, yes it was a 3-0 win, but I could not find my game."

World No. 40 Aira Azman also reached the second round by overcoming Lowri Roberts of Wales 11-8, 11-8, 10-12, 14-12.

Aira will face sixth seed Georgina Kennedy of England in the second round.

However, Rachel Arnold and Ainaa Amani were shown the exit in the first round.

Georgina Kennedy subdued Rachel 11-3, 11-5, 10-12, 11-5 while Frenchwoman Marie Stephen defeated Ainaa 10-12, 11-7, 12-10, 11-7.
