Wheelchair tennis players in winning mood

KUALA LUMPUR: The national wheelchair tennis squad are hoping to reign supreme at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Asean Para Games (Para KL2017).

Coach Mohd Nadir Mohd Ashraf said they have a target of winning two gold medals from three that are on offer.

He expressed confidence his charges will be able to realise the target set for them in both the singles and doubles.

“InsyaAllah we will go all the way in both the open and quad categories and we hope to win at least two gold medals out of three on offer.

“For preparation, our players took part in three tournaments prior to this to tune up for the Para Games,” he said today.

Mohd Nadir called on Malaysians to come not just to witness the matches but to support and cheer on the athletes.

The last time Malaysia competed in wheelchair tennis was at the 2011 Asean Para Games in Solo where the national team won 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals.

Wheelchair tennis at Para KL2017 is scheduled to be held over four days beginning Sept 18 to 21.
