Jokowi to meet Putin on June 30

JAKARTA: Indonesian President Joko Widodo will meet his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, at the end of this month.

This was revealed by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, according to reports in Antara news.

"Yes, that is the president's agenda. I think, what is the problem? It is just a meeting." Mahfud said at the presidential palace here on Monday.

"There is a special team for it (the state visit)," he added of the meeting which will likely be held after Joko, also known as Jokowi, attends the G7 Summit 2022 at Schloss Elmau in the Bavarian Alps, Germany, from June 26-28.

Russian news agency TASS has reported Putin will meet Jokowi in Moscow on June 30.

This year, Indonesia is holding the rotating Group of 20 presidency and will host the 17th G20 summit in Bali, in November.

Putin has confirmed his participation in the summit, Jokowi had said recently in a broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.

The summit will be the peak of the G20 process and intense work conducted within the Ministerial Meetings, Working Groups, and Engagement Groups throughout the year.

Russia's participation is being closely watch as it is currently in a war with Ukraine since February and Jokowi had emphasised on the importance of ending the conflict.

"I also emphasised that a peaceful solution should continue to be put forward, and Indonesia is ready to contribute to the efforts for peace," Jokowi had said in his communication with Putin in April.
