School girl delivers baby in middle of exam

JAWA TIMUR: A student at a high school in Sampang gave birth while in the midst of taking an exam on Thursday.

Kompas reported that the exam supervisor, Muhammad Nurchalid, said the student acted normally before the exam started.

"I supervised the exam during the second hour, and the atmosphere in the exam room was normal; there were no signs that the student was about to give birth (or go into labour)," said Nurchalid when interviewed on Friday.

The silent room however suddenly turned chaotic.

Nurchalid said that was when he heard a baby crying and realised that one of his students had given birth.

"The student was seen sitting while holding her baby," he said, adding that there was blood all over the floor.

He then reached out to a female teacher to help the student.

"Coincidentally, a teacher knew an officer at the Community Health Center, and the student was taken to the health centre by an ambulance.

"Upon arrival at the health centre, the baby was confirmed to be in good health and was taken home by the student's family," he said.

The student however had to be referred to Dr Mohammad Zyn Regional Hospital due to her concerning condition.

"We accompanied the female student. Thankfully, she is getting better," he said.

The school deputy head of public relations officer, Hamid, confirmed the incident. --AGENCY
