SINGAPORE: Four people were sent to hospital after a double-decker bus went up a kerb outside Bedok Residences, a mixed residential-commercial site where a bus interchange is located.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the incident at around 1.30pm on Thursday, and rescuers found a woman trapped under an SBS Transit bus when they arrived at the scene.
She was later freed by SCDF personnel using lifting equipment and was later conveyed to the Changi General Hospital (CGH).
The Singapore Police Force said they were alerted to the accident at 1.32pm involving a bus and four pedestrians along Bedok North Drive towards Bedok North Avenue 1. Four pedestrians aged between 33 and 55 were conscious and conveyed to CGH. Police investigations are ongoing.
TODAY understands that no arrests have been made.
TODAY also understands that three women and a man were involved in the accident. One of the women sustained a fractured leg and some abrasions.
In a video post on Facebook group SG Road Vigilante, online user Richie Tsai wrote that there were two people trapped under the bus: “One (walked) away unscathed. The other (was) unconscious when rescued.”
His video showed a crowd gathering behind an area that was cordoned off, as SCDF personnel worked to get the trapped woman out.
Other photos of the accident that emerged later showed that both the left wheels of the bus were fully on the kerb, with the bus facing the entrance to the bus interchange.
Responding to the case, Tammy Tan, senior vice-president of corporate communications at SBS Transit, said that the company’s priority is to look into the well-being of the injured pedestrians.
“We have a team down at the hospital and they are trying to get in touch with the injured, so that we can extend support to them.”
She added that SBS Transit is assisting the police in their investigations.
“We would also like to apologise to affected commuters and motorists for the inconvenience caused,” Tan said. – TODAY ONLINE
