SHE was well known throughout the world. She had over 1.5 million followers on Twitter and over 2.4 million on Instagram.
She travelled the world and her face has been immortalised in a thousand memes, now happily floating throughout cyberspace.
But, sadly, she is no more.
Her human family announced on Twitter today that Grumpy Cat passed away on May 14 from complications due to a urinary tract infection.
She was seven and was named Tardar Sauce but was more well known by her nickname Grumpy Cat.
Grumpy cat received care from top professionals and her loving family but the complications were too tough for her to overcome.
"She passed away, peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 14, at home in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha," a statement posted on @RealGrumpyCat said.
Known as Grumpy because of the frown on her face (which we think is actually an upside down smile), the feline achieved stardom several years ago, leading to various endorsement contracts and merchandising.
"Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world - even when times were tough.
"Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere," the statement said.
