Designer label Hermès savaged by netizens for selling RM1,700 flip-flops

FRENCH luxury designer label Hermès has been mocked online after shoppers discovered it was selling a pair of ordinary “supermarket look” flip-flops for £335 (RM1,706).

The high end designer, which is famed for its leather goods, features the pair of outrageously-priced rubber sandals on its website.

The shoes – marketed for men – come in three different colours, with the company's “H” logo embroidered on the strap and the brand name stamped across the top of each sandal.

According to the Hermès website, the pricey sandals feature a “foam sole” with a “calfskin lining” and “technical straps”.

But the overpriced “summer sandals” have been mocked on social media, with users claiming they are no different to those produced by supermarkets.

Taking to Facebook, one user said: “Get that ‘clothes aisle in your local supermarket’ look. Could cost US$10, but actually costs US$485 from Hermès”.

Another user said she was “genuinely confused” by the overpriced footwear, which she said she “usually finds entertaining”.

“Normally, I find these kind of things entertaining and laugh and roll my eyes, but I'm genuinely confused by this one... they are literally c*** flip-flops,” she said.

“No ostrich feathers, diamante studs or appropriation of the stylish working class. Just c*** flip-flops”.

And a third said: “Summer sandal? They're bl***** flip flops!”

Similar pairs of foam footwear can be found for sale on supermarket websites for as little as £2 – a whopping £333 less than the designer pair.

Commenting on a Facebook post of the pricey Hermès sandals, a user said: “Probably still get blisters off them”.

“But it has ‘technical straps’,” said another. – Daily Mail
