Singapore begins temperature screening at Woodlands, Tuas checkpoints

SINGAPORE: Singapore today implemented temperature screening for visitors from Malaysia at its busy Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints.

The measure is in response to the coronavirus outbreak in China, which has unfortunately coincided with the busy Lunar New Year travel period, Bernama reported.

On Thursday, Singapore reported its first confirmed case of the virus.

According to the republic’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority’s (ICA) website, travellers arriving at the two land checkpoints must undergo temperature screening conducted by on-site healthcare assistants.

“Suspect cases will be referred to hospitals for further assessment,” it said.

Temperature screening will be implemented progressively for all arriving modes of transport; and travellers are advised to follow ICA officers’ instructions.

Transport modes:

Bus: Travellers will be screened at the alighting bus concourse or bus hall, before reaching immigration counters. Bus drivers will be screened at the security check area.

Train: Travellers will be screened at the alighting platform before entering the train station hall for immigration clearance.

Car: Travellers are required to wind down their car windows for temperature screening at the security check area before reaching immigration counters.

Motorcycle: Travellers are required to remove their helmets for temperature screening at the security check area after passing immigration counters.

Lorry: Travellers will be screened at the cargo platforms or immigration counters.

The ICA added that travellers should expect delays, and are advised to check traffic conditions before embarking on their journey.
