Hamas slams Biden over carte blanche given to Israel

KUALA LUMPUR: Palestinian group Hamas is holding the United States (US) administration liable for the continuous attack by the Israeli's army at Gaza's largest hospital, Al-Shifa.

This comes after claims made by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) that the Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City was Hamas' primary military base with an elaborate network of underground tunnels.

Hamas official spokesman Osama Hamdan said the massacres against Gaza civilians would not have happened without the green light and carte blanche given by US President Joe Biden and his administration to the Israeli occupation forces.

"What happened at Al-Shifa is part of the series of violations in all principles, including military, ethical and humane. This is not only a crime against humanity, it is a war crime.

"Now, the IDF are trying to fabricate evidence as part of their charade of false allegations and we hold the US administration liable, together with the Israeli occupation forces and other world leaders who remain silent.

"(And) as we speak, more than 12,000 Palestinians have been killed, including 4,500 children, 3,000 who are wounded and some 4,000 still buried under the debris.

"This would not have happened without the green light and protection given by Biden and his administration to the Israeli occupation forces," he said in a press conference aired on Al-Jazeera Network, yesterday.

On Wednesday, Israeli forces said that they were carrying out a 'precise and targeted operation' against a suspected Hamas command centre beneath Al-Shifa, where thousands of civilians are seeking shelter.

Hamdan also said that the director of Al-Shifa has been summoned six times and was ordered to evacuate the hospital, adding that they were recently given a one hour ultimatum to leave the hospital.

"All those able to walk must go and more than 600 wounded patients were forced to leave.

"The majority of the medical team left the hospitals and only very few remained to take care of the remaining wounded who were not able to move. However, the response was clear, we are not leaving."

Meanwhile, Hamdan said Israel's continuous action to propagate false reports was a plan to evacuate the entire north part of Gaza.

He added that the attack, coupled with starvation and sieges were also part of the Zionist plan to forcibly transfer Gazans to the South as a step towards expelling them out of the entire Gaza Strip.

"The Israeli occupation forces surrounded Al-Shifa during the recent assault with columns of tanks four days ago, (and) today, they stormed the hospital, forcing the medical staff and all the wounded victims to be evacuated.

"They are simply sending a message because Al-Shifa is a symbol of protection and now the Israeli Zionist regime has desecrated the holies of the holy principle," he said, adding that there was no room for any sanctity in their attacks.

Israel has vowed to destroy Hamas and has since killed 12,300 people, with more than 5,000 of them being children, according to the Hamas government which has ruled Gaza since 2007.

The four-week siege by Israel has also resulted with at least 42 journalists among the tragic losses, marking the deadliest conflict for media professionals since 1992, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

Meanwhile, several international watchdog groups have also called for urgent international action to end the ongoing attacks on hospitals in Gaza, stressing that attacks on medical facilities and civilians are a violation of International Humanitarian and Human Rights Law and Conventions.

In a joint statement, the United Nations Population Fund, the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) and the World Health Organisation said decisive international action is currently needed to secure an immediate ceasefire and prevent further loss of life.
